City of London I vs Pegasus

Result 3 - 0

Scorers: JK, Bayo, Tim Dart

MOM: Saint

Saturday's game was all about 1 man... a man of character, a man of passion, a man who has bled City coloured blood for 8 years... a man originally known as Shunter (for shunting reasons) but following a rebranding exercise a few years ago his new family friendly name is... The Saint.

As Saintmania swept through the nation and materialised in Eltham, the atmosphere was electrifying. The sideline was literally packed with crowds nearing 12 or maybe 13 all there to see him off - it was clear that City needed a result to justify the occasion.

Saturday saw Saint's City soldiers take on their long-standing rivals Pegasus - a team we needed to beat not only to keep our 100% record but also for the much sought after bragging rights! Bringing a strong team with them, this game would always prove to be a test for City 1s.

The game started scrappily with City facing an awkward sun. Despite this, the defence held strong and coped well with all that came its way. Going forward, City went at Pegasus from the off in true derby style carving open their defence on a couple of occasions, which disappointingly did not result in goals, goals, goals. As City gradually wore down the Pegasus defence, JK stepped up to net the first. He started the move with a hook into Fitzy who's neat backheeled return ball allowed JK to glide past 2 defenders before rifling the ball home - 1-0. City were finally off the mark.

10 minutes on and Bayo was rewarded for his defence troubling dribbles by firing a bullet shaped shot, which arrowed into the top right corner of the Peggy goal, postage stamp - 2-0.

Into half time and City were well on their way to victory. Not all good news though as a few dodgy tackles aimed at The Stig put him out of the game leaving a return to the park for Josh in the centre.

The second half proved easier without the sun in our eyes as "Tim the Crim" provided the final nail in Peggy's coffin. A well saved first shot came back to the Crim who rifled in the return with his weaker foot. 3-0 and 3 more points. Come on the City!

Although the game ended with 3 different names on the scoresheet, it was obvious throughout that one man had a guiding hand in all three marking his final game... That man, the legend... Christopher Sinclair.

City of London IIs vs Old Egbertians II's

Result 1 - 3

For a while a shock was most definitely on the cards. we had equalised, held out until half time and there was dinstinct unrest in their camp, evidenced by a couple of yellows and an ongoing dialogue with the ref. unfortunately it wasn't to be and the cup dream died for another season but we left the pitch with heads held high, having matched and at time outfought a side 8 leagues higher for decent stretched of the game.

The morning started shambolically, the visitors resplendent in their bright green shirts and accusing looks in the captain's direction. fotunately our favourite steve irwin-a like pulled a rabbit out the hat and we took the field looking the business in a figure hugging purple and mauve striped ensemble. perfect for keano, less flattering for certain others in the side...

It was clear from the off that Egbertians would play a possession game and that the engine room of midfield would need to put in the hard yards. we actually had the better of the first 15, finding some probing balls between the oppo centere halves and full backs and forcing a reaosnbale amount of pressure. unfortunately when the breakthrough came it went the wrong way, egberts finding some space behind our back line, a couple of crosses and a pull back finding swerve deflecting it over his own line for a harsh og. we needed encouragement and found it in the midfield quartet of keane, robbie, dazza and carl who worked tirelessly to get us back in the game.

It also became apparent that the visitors did not fancy carl's delivery, the aerial bombardment causing problems every time. birko somehow failed to connect with one, sage flicked a header just wide but at the third stroke the equaliser came. a ball to the back stick, a towering leap from birko and rapturous finish from robbie e, 1-1 at the half. and it could have been better had we not had a goal (probably correctly) chalked off for a foul on the keeper.

The second half saw the visitors up the ante once again and gradually throttle the revival. when the second and third goals came though, they were unfortunate rather than incisive, a mistimed clearance looping in the air and a slow motion header for number 2 and a switch off at the back for the third.

Not to be daunted, again we came back and in the last 15 had a fair go to get back in the game, pg causing the back four a few problems with some tireless running, keane lacing in a couple of shots on the turn and sage having a decent flicked effort saved by the keeper.

So down but not disgraced, special mentions for whitworth back in form at the back and pamphilon's flick over the head of his winger who was heard to utter, with some accuracy "i cant believe it, you've done me".

Like a kipper.
