Match Report Saturday 3rd MarchLeague 2 South Pegasus IIs vs. City of London I
Result 2 - 1 Scorer: JK A substitute defence was required for this week's match against Pegasus as regular centrebacks Capo, Reevo and Boydy were all in alternative countries! City pulled together though as they found themselves rarely troubled on a sloppy pitch. City established a good momentum in the first half, building patiently from the back and making the ball do the work leaving Pegasus to chase. Chances came our way as a result but without any luck in front of goal. Numerous goalmouth scrambles promised goals but ended with clearances as Pegasus were lucky not to conceed. This luck continued to work for Pegasus as with the final kick of the half they put one of their only shots into the net. 1 - 0 at half time, City unlucky to be losing. The second half started with City determined to get an equaliser. Dominant from the start but disappointed for the majority as numerous attacks from all over the pitch were thwarted by Pegasus. It wasn't until 75 minutes that the goal eventually came. A move down the left courtesy of Bayo, Lock and Carlos provided an opening. Carlos spotted J on the edge of the area and played it square. A controlled touch and an exquisite finish later, City were back in with a shout. Peggy's turn to attack and try and overturn this solid City performance - no real chances resulted until a fairly innoccuous attack saw the oppo's centre mid jump for a 50:50 header with Fitzy 20 yards from goal... Fitzy won the ball fairly but the oppo player was seemingly attacked and went down like he'd been shot. The referee pointed immediately to the spot. Yet another in a long line of questionnable decisions against City. A well taken penalty gave Pegasus the lead with 10 minutes to go... City had to get back in it... but then came more bad luck, COL reduced down to ten men after an unfortunate sending off. The game finished 2 - 1 in Pegasus' favour - 2 losses on the trot for the league leaders. League 8 South City of London IIs vs. BBC II Result 3 - 1 Scorers : Robbie Elliott, PG, Andre MOM ; Andre - dynamism personified For the second week running a slow start meant we had to fight back from a goal down in a hard fought game with the bbc. The opening skirmishes saw us dominating possession again Ben looking tasty down the right and the shots starting to reign in, although none of them particularly on target to test the visiting keeper's mettle. The general air of malaise though was compounded when the ball fell to the BBC's danger man a good 25 yards out, who swung and connected like a peach to lash the ball over Danny for the opening strike. This week the team talk stayed as was without the benefit of an equaliser to reassure frayed nerves. Must do better. The second half opened as the first one finished, a surfeit of possession culminating in some wasteful finishing, Paul and Yappy both had seemingly goal bound shots blocked before a stroke of luck - what looked like a soft penalty given to the home side. Carl stepped up to the plate...and duly blasted the ball high over the bar, unfortunately more Wilkinson than Shearer. Just one of those days? Fortunately this setback seemed to spur us on rather than put our heads down and the pressure built with a succession of set pieces threatening the BBC net. With Paul struggling with injury scheming upfront and Carl, Yappy and Robbie working their socks off in the midfield the Sky Sports stats on possession turned the home side's way. Partial redemption came then for Carl as his long throw was flicked on at the near post for Robbie to steer in well for the deserved equaliser. It was then left to the strikers to seal the three points, the second goal courtesy of a raking Hoddle-esque ball out of defence from Pamphilon which found its target on PG's chest. Taken down on the run, PG then lashed home from distance making it 2 in 2. The baton then passed to Andre, a bundle of energy and trickery throughout on his return to the IIs, who jinked left and right leaving defenders foundering in his wake before smashing home from 15 yards. More pressure but no more goals, another heartening fightback and three more points in the bag.
