Match Report Saturday 2nd DecemberLeague 2 South Comets vs. City of London I
Result 0 - 5 Scorers: Fitzy (2), Stig, Carlos and Capo Mom Rob Cockburn This week's game saw Comets field a strong team to try and stifle City's search for their first 'double' of the season... combined with a boggy pitch, this was a tough, tough match. The first twenty minutes started rockily for City as some pacey Comet attacks down the flanks started to take their toll. With no clear cut chances however, City were able to battle back and get that vital first goal. That goal came from Fitzy... well marked in the area but not defeated, the assassin-like striker received the ball in the air from Bayo... some expert control, a cheeky flick and a powerful shot volleyed accurately into the bottom corner. City ahead 1-0. The second came almost straight away, again courtesy of Mr Fitzgerald! A great run and a well weighted through ball from Bayo allowed our no. 9 to slot easily home from just inside the area. 2-0 and Fitzy into the first team's golden boot position!! A Timmy cross from the right came next. A bit too much curl for the oppo keeper as he fumbled his catch on the edge of the six yard box. Stig in a great position to power the ball home. Carlos netted the fourth with a stunning smasher into the roof of the net made possible by Fitzy's accurate cross. 4-0 into half time. A tactical change at half time resulted in a few more attacks from the home team and fewer chances for the City as the second half began. It took a while to accustom ourselves to the change but once back in gear, we defended well and the chances started to come. Another headed goal from the captain put us up to five nil despite claims it hadn't crossed the line from the oppo... a strong willed ref meant the goal stood, 5 - 0 and Capo making a play for the golden boot! City were unlucky not to get a sixth as Lock crossed into JK from the right flank. Determined to get level with his strike partner, J controlled well and volleyed with his weaker foot over the keeper's head. The struggling keeper managed to get a hand to it and palm the effort onto the crossbar but it wasn't enough as the ball bounced down over the line. City's celebrations were cut short however as this time the ref opted the other way... still 5-0 but another game won and another three points.
